The vaccine ended my season,' says NBA player; NBA warned him to keep quiet
“COVID vaccine has revealed the athletes who only think of themselves.”
With headlines like these, who needs enemies? This one appeared in the Times (of London), introducing an article by its Chief Sports Writer. And yet, despite the public pressure, a large number of prominent athletes are still turning down the COVID vaccine.
One is basketball player Kyrie Irving who is foregoing around half of his $35 million salary due to his refusal to be vaccinated.
“So what. It’s not about the money,” Irving said on Instagram Live. “It’s not always about the money. It’s about choosing what’s best for you. You think I really want to lose money?”
His choice means that he won’t be playing with the Nets, as the team’s management has decided against including him now that he’s ineligible for playing home games.
“I am doing what’s best for me. I know the consequences here and if it means that I’m judged and demonized for that, that’s just what it is,” Irving said.
Irving was primarily referring to the professional and financial consequences, but the health consequences are hardly negligible, as the case of Atlanta Hawks player Brandon Goodwin shows.
“I got sick, and I never quite recovered from it,” Goodwin relates. “I would always have back pain. I was super tired in the games. But we played Philly back-to-back. I was so tired. I felt like I couldn’t run up and down the court and my back was hurting.
“Then we went home. I think that’s when I started … My back really started hurting bad, and then I’m like, ‘I gotta go to the doctor,’ and that’s when I find out I had blood clots.”
Goodwin noted that, “It all happened in a span of a month. I was fine up until then. Up until I took the vaccine, I was fine. So people trying to tell you, ‘No, it’s not the vaccine,’ Oh? How do you know? You don’t know. Yes, the vaccine ended my season. One thousand percent.”
It may also have ended his career, but that’s not what the NBA is concerned about. Gateway Pundit reports that Goodwin says what concerns them is that the story doesn’t get out, and they’ve warned him against discussing it.
