Rapper dies suddenly during performance
Rap artist Fatman Scoop collapsed suddenly during a show Friday from a “medical emergency.” He was 53.
No cause of death announced
The incident occurred as the rapper, born Isaac Freeman III, was performing at a concert held at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut. Footage shows him galvanizing the crowd while shirtless, strutting about the stage and urging the audience to “make some noise.” His voice sounded out of breath as he told concertgoers he had to “relax” and “chill.”
“Hold up, you gotta understand this. Big man, gotta relax, I’m stretching . . . Big man gotta chill,” he said over the mic. “They ain’t got no fans on this stage. Jesus.”
“I just want to say this, Hamden, where ya’ll at? Make some noise for me, heavy baby.”
A loud thud was then heard, which was Fatman Scoop’s body hitting the floor. Medical staff performed CPR on the performer and transported him to a nearby ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. No cause of death has been revealed.
“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” his family wrote in an Instagram post the next day. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”
“FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage,” the tribute continued.
