Injected Canadians face fines, quarantine if not registered on government app

Canadians injected with the COVID-19 shots still face fines if they are not registered on the government’s ArriveCan app, even if they show proof of injection.

A video circulating social media shows a woman traveling with her 86-year-old father being held by authorities at the Toronto airport because the older man is not on the government’s ArriveCan database. The official informs the woman that she can have her father, who does not have a cell phone, added to her account on ArriveCan, but the woman pushes back.

“I have the ArriveCan app and he does not,” the woman explains. “He has his proof of documentation showing that he’s been vaccinated. That’s all that’s required.”

“No,” says the official. “He has to do the ArriveCan. But we can put him onto your account –”

“Nope.”

“How come you don’t want to do it?”

“Why should I have to?”

“Because it’s a requirement to get into Canada,” says the official.

“What if he was traveling by himself?” she asks.

“I will be flying by myself and I don’t have a cell phone,” says the father, who is seen sitting in a wheelchair.

“Are you guys related?” the official asks.

“Yeah.”

“So what’s the problem with putting him on your account?”

“I don’t think I should have to.”

“Nancy, never mind,” the father tells his daughter. “This is a bureaucracy gone amok.”

The official informs the travelers that this is a requirement set by the Quarantine Act.

“Well, let’s see, you’ve got my COVID shots, I’ve had four of them,” says the senior. “You have my passport. Why not let’s just do the paperwork and get this over with?”

“Because they want the app. The government wants the app,” says the official.

According to the Canadian government’s website, those who do not submit their information through ArriveCan may be denied entry into the country. Canadian citizens who do not submit their information through ArriveCan – even if they are fully injected – will not be considered a fully vaccinated traveler, may be subjected to quarantine, testing, “additional delays at the border for public health questioning” and “fines or enforcement action.”

These requirements raise questions about whether injection status is all that important to the Canadian government, or if it is just a means to force digital identification.

“Canada is communist,” podcast host Joe Rogan said during Thursday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. “They’re f***ed. They gotta get rid of that guy [Trudeau].”

“I just liked him,” he added. “I liked him before the pandemic. I was like he’s a handsome guy. … Good looking guy, confident talker. And during the pandemic I’m like ‘oh, you’re a f***ing dictator.'”
