Indian gender clinics close after Trump shuts off USAID valve

Three transgender facilities in India have closed after President Donald Trump paused foreign aid and effectively shut down the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) recently exposed USAID as a massive slush fund for spreading the Leftist agenda worldwide under the pretext of “humanitarian aid.” The agency has funded anti-Israel rap songs in Gaza, transgender operas in Colombia, DEI in Serbia, the publication of a transgender comic book in Peru, luxuries for Ukrainian models, and even earmarked $20 million to produce an Arabic version of “Sesame Street” in Iraq called “Ahlan Simsim.”

For over four years, USAID also funded three gender facilities in India operated by the Mitr Clinic. The funds were transferred to an NGO named YRG Care and disbursed under a Bush-era AIDS program called the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). According to The Indian Express, one of those facilities catered to roughly 2,500 transgender-identifying people in Hyderabad, including the Old City dominated by Muslims.

‘A more inclusive society for the LGBTQI+’

The Mitr Clinic’s opening in January 2021 was celebrated by the Biden administration. The Biden State Department released a documentary called “Mitr Clinic – Pride and Beyond.”

“As the White House report released on November 20 [2021] to memorialize the Transgender Day of Remembrance noted, the U.S. government is taking essential steps to address the root causes of anti-transgender violence, discrimination, and denial of economic opportunity,” a Biden official said in the State Department’s news release at the time. “These clinics, which provide community-led comprehensive health care services to the transgender community, are a big step toward building a more inclusive society for the LGBTQI+ persons.”

The clinic offered “gender-affirming care” such as cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers. Ethical doctors refer to these interventions as medical mutilation because they cause irreversible sterility and castration. But Rachana Mudraboyina, a former clinic employee, said medical mutilation was only a fraction of the services offered by the clinic.

“The gender affirmation services constituted just 1% of our clientele. We worked on basic healthcare for the trans-community, who are otherwise ostracised in the society, and also HIV care in a major way,” Mudraboyina said.

The Mitr Clinic shut down on January 24th, immediately after Trump ordered a freeze on foreign aid. He has since gutted USAID by laying off its staff, cutting 90% of its foreign contracts, and leasing its offices to the US Customs and Border Protection.
