Hillary Clinton preempts 2024 election results with new conspiracy theory
In a video posted to Twitter by the “Indivisible” group, which was “brought together by a practical guide to resist the Trump agenda,” Hillary Clinton endorsed the group and its “Crush the Coup” campaign. Crush the Coup, an answer to the Republicans’ Stop the Steal, appears to be already anticipating a Republican win and has devised a conspiracy theory to deny the victory.
“I know we’re all focused on the 2022 midterm elections, and they are incredibly important, but we also have to look ahead, because our opponents certainly are,” the twice-failed presidential candidate said in the video. “Right-wing extremists already have a plan to literally steal the next presidential election, and they are not making a secret of it.”
Then came the conspiracy theory:
“The right-wing controlled Supreme Court may be poised to rule on giving state legislatures . . . the power to overturn presidential elections. Just think, the 2024 presidential election could be decided not by the popular vote, or even by the anachronistic electoral college, but by state legislatures, many of them Republican-controlled.”
Clinton has denied election results before, declaring the 2016 election “stolen” and calling President Trump an “illegitimate president".
But these remarks fly in the face of a frantic Democrat narrative over the last two years to shut down any suggestion that the 2020 election was stolen, which includes demonizing “election deniers” who are a “threat to democracy”.
In August, CNN host Jim Acosta panicked on air when his guest suggested that elections need to be made more secure.
The sparring began when Acosta’s guest, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, proposed that election irregularities be solved ahead of the midterm elections.
“Our elections are fine,” Acosta sputtered, appearing scandalized at the suggestion.
In a jarringly militant speech last month, Joe Biden stood flanked by US Marines against a blood-red backdrop at Independence Historic Park and demonized “MAGA Republicans” for denying elections.
“They refuse to accept the results of a free election,” he accused.
“But democracy endures only if we, the people . . . accept the results of free and fair elections,” he added.
“Democracy cannot survive when one side believes there are only two outcomes to an election: either they win or they were cheated. And that’s where MAGA Republicans are today.”
“I will not stand by and watch — I will not — the will of the American people be overturned by wild conspiracy theories and baseless, evidence-free claims of fraud.”
As for Clinton’s new conspiracy theory involving the Supreme Court and state legislatures, Biden said “American democracy only works only if we choose to respect the rule of law and the institutions that were set up in this chamber behind me, only if we respect our legitimate political differences.”
