German study: The higher the vaccination rate, the more excess mortality

While most studies look at how effective the  COVID vaccines are in preventing death from COVID, the more important measure of the vaccine’s overall effectiveness is in its effect on death from all causes. It could be that the vaccine reduces death due to COVID, but at the same time may increase death in numerous other ways such as cardiovascular disease, strokes, etc. 

Disturbing data is coming out of Germany, where researchers Prof. Dr. Rolf Steyer and Dr. Gregor Kappler conducted an analysis examining excess mortality in German states during weeks 36 to 40.  The analysis compared states that had higher vaccination rates versus the ones with lower vaccination rates. One would have expected to find that in states where the was more vaccination, there would be fewer deaths, but the data shows the opposite. “The higher the vaccination rate, the higher the excess mortality.”   

As reported in Reitschuster, the statistical evaluation gives the following picture: The y-axis shows the excess mortality in percent. For example, 110.0 stands for excess mortality of 10%. 100.0 means no excess mortality and marks the average from 2016 to 2020. The x-axis shows the state's vaccination rate in percent. 

Thuringia (4%) and Saxony (2%), the two countries with the lowest vaccination rates, also have the lowest excess mortality. The front runner is Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with a vaccination rate of 66% and an excess mortality rate of 16%. The larger federal states are all in the range of excess mortality of 10% with vaccination rates of 66 to 71%. 

This data is very concerning to say the least. In the study’s conclusion, Steyer and Kapler suggest that there may be other explanations. Such as changes in the distribution of elderly over the recent years, (with higher vaccination rate and higher mortality). However, this explanation is not very plausible, as the proportion of old people would then have changed significantly between 2016-2020 compared to 2021. Another explanation could be; that higher vaccination rates are achieved by increased stress and anxiety that lead to increased numbers of deaths.  

Looking at this data from Germany, it seems that vaccination is at least correlated, and, maybe even cause significantly more deaths. This data is consistent with the warnings from the early reporting systems that monitor vaccine safety that is showing these new COVID vaccines are associated with more deaths than any other vaccine over the last 30 years.
