Europe, US to launch ‘freedom convoys’ against COVID mandates
Following in the footsteps of the 2022 Freedom Convoy, in which thousands of Canadian truckers protested the Canadian government’s vaccine mandates, groups in the United States and Europe are organizing their own convoys.
The 2022 Freedom Convoy gained international attention with their trek from British Columbia to Ottowa, where they arrived Saturday and are now protesting in Parliament Hill. The organization raised $7.2 million and was cheered on by millions around the globe who oppose mandates, including such popular figures as Elon Musk and Joe Rogan.
The convoy has now appeared to have sparked a firestorm across the world as the European continent and the United States prepare to launch their own convoys in protest of heavy-handed government mandates.
With a glaring lack of attention from the mainstream media, European truckers are organizing on social media to meet in Brussels on February 7th.
“The Canadian trucker convoy showed us the way to freedom,” said commentator James Melville in a tweet. “And now it’s about to happen in Europe. Welcome to the European Trucker Convoy / European Freedom Convoy to Brussels.”
Brussels was chosen as the convergence point likely because it was the site of severe clashes between police and protesters one week ago. Upwards of 50,000 people gathered in Brussels to protest the vaccine mandates and were met by violent reactions from police, who used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
Among the countries expected to make the journey to Brussels is France, Belgium, Finland and France, to be joined by Czechoslovakia and even Australia, whose citizens have been notably oppressed by what is now a police state.
As of now, it is unknown how many trucks are expected for the convoy. Each country is organizing its own convoy on the Telegram app.
The United States is also seeing a convoy of its own forming on social media. The USA Freedom Convoy 2022 plans to arrive in Washington, D.C. on February 8th via two routes: Dallas to DC via i-20 to i-95 and Tampa to DC via i-4 to i-95. As with the European convoy, it is unclear at this stage how many vehicles are expected.
