Democrats push to abort babies of disabled people

House Democrats on Thursday introduced a resolution aimed at increasing abortion rates among disabled Americans.

House Resolution 453 calls to designate a day in May as “Disability Reproductive Equity Day” to support abortion—or “reproductive freedom,” as activists euphemistically call it—for babies born to disabled people. It was introduced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and co-sponsored by Rep. Lateefah Simon (D-CA), Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), and Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL).

According to the resolution, the House of Representatives “designates ‘Disability Reproductive Equity Day’ to support and bring awareness to the right of people with disabilities to reproductive and sexual health, autonomy, and freedom; pledges to advance the right of people with disabilities to reproductive and sexual health, autonomy, and freedom; and calls on the President to . . . protect the right of people with disabilities to reproductive and sexual health, autonomy, and freedom.”

At the very beginning, the resolution misleadingly states that there are only “1 in 10 people with disabilities who are able to become pregnant.” The word “people” appears to include men. The resolution also omits evidence showing that pregnancy prevalence among disabled women is roughly comparable to, or slightly lower than, that of abled women and that most pregnancy outcomes among disabled women are favorable.

The document lamented a “long history of reproductive coercion impacting people with disabilities” and “an ongoing legacy of reproductive oppression of people with disabilities, especially women with disabilities, people of color with disabilities, people with disabilities with low incomes, and LGBTQI+ people with disabilities, has deprived many of their reproductive autonomy.”

‘Hard to believe we don't already have’ such a day

Gerry Callahan, a political commentator, appears to be a constituent of Rep. Pressley’s and reacted to the news on X.

“As always, my Congresswoman doing the important work for the people of her district,” he wrote. “It's hard to believe we don't already have a day to celebrate Disability Reproductive Equity, whatever that is.

“Seriously, I think it's time to send this deranged woman for a psych evaluation.”

“She may actually be a republican Plant,” another user commented. “Because there’s no frigging way that anyone on the left thinks she’s boosting democratic favorability.”
