‘Convoy to DC 2022’ to begin March 1st

Convoy to DC 2022, the American counterpart to the wildly popular Canadian 2022 Freedom Convoy, has announced that it will begin its trek on March 1st, 2022. The convoy plans to travel from California to Washington, D.C., with a second point of origin likely to be announced.

Like its northern comrade, which has sparked mass protests across Ottawa, the DC convoy is protesting COVID-19 mandates, particularly those imposed by the United States and Canadian governments.

The Trudeau administration recently decreed that those who are not vaccinated must quarantine for 14 days after crossing the border, which impacts truckers disproportionately. Since last year, no one over the age of 12 may board a plane or train unless they are vaccinated, even if they test negatively for COVID-19.

With such widespread support for the reversal of the mandates, the Convoy to DC 2022 Facebook group has doubled its supporters in two days. The group currently has amassed over 125,000 followers.

“We are part of many large groups who believe in our founding fathers,” reads the About section on the Facebook page. “We believe everyone has a voice. We support our freedom. Help us spread the word about this group and together we all can make it a better place. God Bless America.”

One of the admins of the group, Jeremy Johnson, explained the convoy’s mission.

“They want these mandates done. Over with,” said Johnson. “And the reason why, folks, is I’ve been in talks with numerous people – from Canada and the United States – who haven’t seen their families, in some cases over two years since the mandate started.”

Johnson then pointed out the Biden administration’s infamous border crisis.

“Now, you gotta look at the southern border. They’re allowing people to walk across the southern border, literally walk right across it. Loading them up on vans, buses and airplanes, delivering them all over the country, without being vaccinated and [they’re] giving them government assistance. But they’re gonna separate the families at the northern border that are legal, that are here, that are residents of the United States or Canada. There’s something not right there.”

The demands of the convoy, according to Johnson, are straightforward.

“We are demanding that they remove all mandates and let families re-unite,” he said. “...Enough’s enough. We’re not gonna follow your ridiculous mandates anymore.”

But Johnson wants supporters to know that this convoy is not “truckers-only”.

“This isn’t just for truckers,” continued Johnson. “This is for all Americans...It’s time to end this once and for all.”
