Biden’s ‘Minister of Truth’ defends Russian disinformation hoax

Nina Jankowicz, the “disinformation expert” tapped by the Biden administration in 2022 to head its proposed “Ministry of Truth,” falsely told Congress on Tuesday that the Hunter Biden laptop story was based on “evidence.”

During a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, Jankowicz defended the 51 intelligence officials who signed a fraudulent letter in 2020 that claimed the New York Post’s bombshell Hunter Biden laptop story, which exposed the Biden family’s corruption, was “Russian disinformation.” Joe Biden, mainstream media outlets, and social media platforms used the letter to discredit the story in the days before the presidential election and accuse President Trump of being aided by the Kremlin. It was later revealed that the letter’s signatories had known the story was not Russian disinformation but made the false claim anyway to swing the election in Biden’s favor.

At the congressional hearing on Tuesday, Jankowicz testified that the claim was true “based on the evidence at the time” and defended the letter as “free speech.”

“Do you believe that the 51 former intelligence officials, who said that the Hunter Biden’s laptop were a product of Russian disinformation?” Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-WA) asked Jankowicz. “Do you think they impacted the trust of the American people in the intelligence establishment to successfully use social media to go after terrorists?”

“Sir, does free speech only apply when you like what’s being said?” Jankowicz replied. “Those guys were exercising their right to free speech and actually, what they said was that it bore the hallmarks of a disinformation campaign which, based on the evidence at the time, was true.”

The US Ministry of Truth

Jankowicz was tapped in 2022 by the Biden-Harris administration to lead the Disinformation Governance Board (DGB). The DGB, which was criticized as a “Ministry of Truth,” was slated to work with the Department of Homeland Security to stamp out “disinformation.” Jankowicz, who has said she “shudders” at the thought of free speech, has been a frequent source of disinformation. She vehemently claimed the Hunter Biden laptop was a “Trump campaign product” and in 2016 peddled the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump conspired with the Kremlin to steal the presidential election.

The DGB was scrapped after backlash. Last year, leaked documents revealed that the board was meant to silence opponents of the Biden-Harris administration, including those who question the 2020 election results.

Intelligence officials admit to election influencing

In January, former Defense Intelligence Agency Deputy Director Douglas Wise admitted that he and the other intelligence officials who signed the letter knew the Hunter Biden story was real at the time but signed the letter anyway. Another one of the letter’s signatories, former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell, testified that Biden Secretary of State Antony Blinken was one of the driving forces behind the letter, whose express purpose was to leverage the official titles of the intelligence officials to impact the election for Joe Biden.
