‘A giant scandal’: Bill Maher slams COVID-19 narrative

Bill Maher, staunch liberal and host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher recently slammed the COVID-19 narrative, which he said was not really about health. In a recent interview with Deadline, Maher said that COVID-19 is primarily a threat to those who are unhealthy.
“I’m over COVID,” Maher said. “It was never that virulent a threat, I thought, to people who were in good health.”
The media personality stressed that the virus is really a threat to those who are unhealthy, citing a study from the CDC that found that 78% of COVID-19 patients who died or went to the hospital were overweight or obese.
“So, the fact that America, the medical establishment, never even attempted to get people to live a healthier lifestyle as a response to this pandemic is a giant scandal to me,” continued Maher. “The people who didn’t do that have blood on their hands. There’s no other way to put it.”
The 66-year-old TV host then attacked the heavy focus on vaccines, saying that while he believes vaccines prevent death from COVID, he would not be getting the booster shot.
“But if they don’t prevent you from transmitting it and they don’t prevent you from getting it, why are we still treating this disease the way we always have? And what the f*ck is the use of a booster shot? Because I will never get a booster shot.”
Maher isn’t the first celebrity to express concern that the COVID-19 conversation is too focused on vaccines and not enough on actual health.
Embattled Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who drew ire from the mainstream media and vaccine die-hards last year for not getting the vaccine, expressed his frustration on The Pat McAfee Show in November.
“The one frustration that I have in all of this, is that throughout this entire time there hasn’t been real conversation around health,” said the sports star. “As far as giving people things to think about when it comes to health, like how to be healthier. As far as your diet, vitamins, and exercise.”
However, celebrities like Maher and Rodgers are still in the minority. Far louder and more numerous are voices like radio shock jock Howard Stern, who said that unvaccinated patients should be denied access to hospitals.
“If it was up to me, anyone unvaccinated would not be admitted to a hospital,” Stern said on his broadcast last week. “Now if you don’t get [the vaccine], in my America, all hospitals would be closed to you. You’re gonna go home and die.”
However, as protests against vaccine mandates and the COVID-19 narrative grow around the globe, Maher and Rodgers may soon find themselves in large company.
